Veterinary prescription software with a controlled drugs register

PetGrid's veterinary prescription software lets a vet issue, dispense, label and refill prescriptions from the patient's chart, with a controlled drugs register that keeps its own running balance.

Stock comes down as you dispense, the fill goes on the invoice, and owners ask for refills in their app.

How it works

How it works, step by step

  1. Issue

From the chart, fill in the drug, directions, quantity, refills and expiry; your licence number and the VCPR box complete it.

  2. Dispense and label

Dispense from a stock lot, print the label and link the fill to the visit's invoice; stock comes down on its own.

  3. Refill

The owner asks for a refill in the app; a vet approves or declines it, and the history is kept.

  4. Account for controlled drugs

Every controlled drug movement lands in the register with its running balance, ready to download.

What you can do

What you can do with it

  • Issue a prescription with the drug, strength, form, quantity, directions, route, refills and expiry, with the vet's licence number and a VCPR confirmation.

  • Dispense from stock, soonest expiry first or a lot you choose, and link the fill to the invoice.

  • Print a dispensing label, or a written prescription for an outside pharmacy, signed by hand.

  • Let owners request a refill in the free PetGrid app; a vet approves or declines it.

  • Keep a controlled drugs register: every movement received, dispensed, wasted or adjusted, with a running balance and a CSV download.

  • Change a prescription by discontinuing it and issuing a new one, so the history stays whole.

Good to know

What it does not do (yet)

  • There is no electronic prescribing to pharmacies; outside pharmacies get a printed, hand-signed prescription.
  • Prescriptions are never edited: to change one, discontinue it and issue a new one.
  • There is no AI in prescriptions.

Questions people ask

Who can write a prescription in PetGrid?

A vet, or an admin with a licence number, issues prescriptions in PetGrid. Each one records the licence number and a confirmation that a veterinarian-client-patient relationship exists.

Does PetGrid keep a controlled drugs log?

Yes. Controlled items are marked in inventory, and every movement (received, dispensed, wasted, adjusted) goes into the controlled drugs register with a running balance, which you can download as a CSV.

How do refill requests from owners work?

Owners request a refill in the app, and PetGrid blocks requests when no refills are left, it is too soon, the prescription has expired or the pet has died. A vet approves (the owner is told) or declines.

Can PetGrid send a prescription to a pharmacy?

No. You print a written prescription for an outside pharmacy and sign it by hand; PetGrid does not send prescriptions to pharmacies electronically.
