Pip, your pet's Wellness Buddy in the PetGrid app

Pip is your pet's Wellness Buddy in the free PetGrid app: ask it where something is, when a vaccine is due, or what an official guide says about caring for your pet.

Pip is not a vet. It never diagnoses, never gives a dose, and when something sounds urgent it shows you who to call.

How it works

How it works, step by step

  1. Ask

Open Pip in the app and type your question in your own words.

  2. Urgent comes first

If it sounds like an emergency, Pip shows a card with call buttons at once.

  3. Pip finds the answer

Pip looks in your own app and in official guides, and answers with the link.

  4. Or it says it does not know

If there is no source, Pip says so and points you to your clinic or a vet.

What you can do

What you can do with it

  • Ask where something is in the app: the vaccine card, reminders, sharing, lost mode, finding a vet.

  • Ask when your pet's next vaccine or reminder is due.

  • Get pet care guidance from 24 official guides (CFIA, Government of Canada, CDC, USDA and provinces), with the link.

  • Get an emergency card with call buttons the moment something sounds urgent.

  • With a PetGrid clinic: ask about your next visit, bills, refills and clinic hours, and hand off to the clinic chat.

The AI in it

How the AI helps, and who decides

Pip finds answers in your app and in official guides, can write a short AI reply (up to 40 a day), and with a PetGrid clinic it can add the clinic's AI answers. It never diagnoses.

What the AI does

  • Pip finds answers in your own app (due dates, reminders, sharing, the vaccine card, lost mode) and in official government pet care guides. For general questions it can also write a short reply with an AI model, up to 40 a day per owner, with or without a PetGrid clinic.
  • With a PetGrid clinic that turns them on, it can use the clinic's automated quick answers (labelled automated) and the clinic's symptom helper, which only answers from cited sources.
  • Words that sound like an emergency bring up a card with call buttons straight away, with no AI involved.

What you decide

You decide what to do next; Pip never diagnoses, never names a dose and never tells you not to worry. For your pet's health, Pip points you to your vet.

How to switch it off

Turn AI off for a pet on that pet's page in the free app, or under Account, Privacy with a PetGrid clinic. Your conversation with Pip stays on your device and is cleared after seven days or when you tap "Start over".

Good to know

What it does not do (yet)

  • Pip is not a vet and never gives a diagnosis, a treatment or a dose.
  • Pip can write a short reply with an AI model, up to 40 a day per owner; after that it answers from your app and official guides.
  • The symptom helper works only with a PetGrid clinic that turns it on, and it is off by default.
  • When Pip has no source, it says so and points you to your clinic or a vet.

Questions people ask

What is Pip in the PetGrid app?

Pip is your pet's Wellness Buddy in the free PetGrid app: it helps you find things in the app and gives pet care guidance from official government guides. Pip is not a vet and never gives a diagnosis.

Can Pip tell me what is wrong with my pet?

No. Pip does not diagnose, recommend treatment or give doses. If something seems wrong, call your vet; if it sounds urgent, Pip shows an emergency card with call buttons.

Does Pip use AI?

Sometimes. Many answers come from your own data in the app and from stored official guides, chosen by plain rules. For general questions Pip can also write a short reply with an AI model, up to 40 a day per owner, with or without a PetGrid clinic. A PetGrid clinic can add its own AI answers, which must cite a source.

Where is my conversation with Pip kept?

On your device only. PetGrid does not keep it on a server, and it is cleared seven days after your last message or when you tap "Start over".

What happens when Pip does not know?

Pip says it has no source for that, and offers the clinic chat or finding a vet. It never guesses. More in the questions about Pip.
