PetGrid is a good Provet Cloud alternative for a small independent clinic that wants monthly terms, an owner app in its own name and a free, self-serve start. If you need full inventory, a listening AI scribe and independent security certifications today, Provet Cloud is ahead, and this post says so plainly.
This is the short read: why clinics look, where Provet is the better choice and where PetGrid fits, built from Provet's own pages as they read on 26 September 2026. For all 36 rows in eight tables, see PetGrid vs Provet Cloud, every feature side by side.
Why clinics look for a Provet Cloud alternative
Most clinics that look for a Provet Cloud alternative are worried about the commitment, not the product. Provet Cloud, from Nordhealth, publishes a full price list, and Nordhealth says it runs in more than 3,000 clinics across 45 countries. Three points come up.
- The term. Provet's terms of service set initial and renewal terms in each subscription agreement, and either side needs at least three months' notice to end one, expiring at the end of a term.
- The runway. Provet describes typical go-live as 8 to 12 weeks. That is thorough, and it is also a long wait for a small clinic that wants to move this month.
- Migration charges. Provet's terms say data migration charges are set per scope in a statement of work. Ask what yours would be before you sign.
We also found no Canada-specific material on Provet's site, so a clinic inspected in Ontario should ask how corrections are recorded. Our roundup of veterinary practice management software in Canada places Provet among the other options.
Where Provet Cloud is the better choice
Provet Cloud is the better choice if you need inventory, AI scribing, certifications or broad support today. We would rather you know that now than after a trial.
- Inventory. Provet lists automated reorders, expiry tracking and wholesaler price updates. PetGrid's inventory is basic, with no purchase orders, automatic reordering or supplier price feeds.
- An AI scribe that listens. Provet's AI Scribe add-on writes SOAP or narrative notes, captures charges and drafts discharge instructions, in seven languages. PetGrid's AI Assist drafts from a vet's own shorthand or dictation.
- Certifications. Provet is ISO 27001:2022 certified and lists SOC 2 Type II. PetGrid has no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 audit and no formal penetration test yet.
- Messaging and support. Provet's SMS is established, and it offers live chat, phone and email. PetGrid's two-way texting is new and part of the paid AI Front Desk add-on, and its support is email only, on weekdays.
- Scale. If you run several locations and want a product proven in thousands of clinics, Provet has that track record.
Is PetGrid a good Provet Cloud alternative?
Yes, for a small independent clinic that values short terms and a quick start over feature breadth. PetGrid is smaller and does less, and it fits these situations better.
- Month-to-month. PetGrid is billed monthly, with no long-term contract. Cancel any time, effective at the end of the billing period. See pricing.
- An owner app in your clinic's name. Booking requests, records, refills, chat and reminders, under your own name and colours. We found no dedicated owner app on Provet's site. See the app for your clients.
- Your records in, free, this week. Clients, pets, visit history and vaccine history import free from CSV or Excel, and you see every row before anything is saved. See import and export.
- Built for an Ontario inspection. A saved entry is never edited, a correction is an addendum with its own author, date and reason, and drugs are billed apart from services. See patient records.
- AI in every plan, a person in charge. AI Assist drafts SOAP notes and replies, AI reads old records into the chart, and owners get vet-approved visit summaries and Pip.
Provet is the broader product. PetGrid is the lighter commitment: monthly, self-serve, with the owner app and imports included, but no independent security audit yet.

What does Provet Cloud cost compared with PetGrid?
Provet publishes Core at a US$249 monthly platform fee with one vet included, plus US$99 per extra vet, and Pro at US$299 plus US$129 per vet, with non-vet staff free. These are Provet's own figures, read on 26 September 2026.
PetGrid is $259 CAD a month per practice plus $90 CAD per veterinarian, so one vet comes to $349 CAD and three vets to $529 CAD. Vet techs, front desk staff and pet owners are free, there is no setup fee, and every practice starts with 14 days free with no card. Both charge per vet, so compare them in the same currency at your own headcount. The pricing FAQ covers the rest.
The verdict: Provet Cloud or PetGrid?
Pick Provet Cloud if full inventory, a listening scribe, certifications and phone support are worth a term agreement. Pick PetGrid if you want month-to-month billing, an owner app in your clinic's name, free self-serve imports and records built to the Ontario standard.
Questions people ask
Is PetGrid a good Provet Cloud alternative?
For a small independent clinic that wants monthly terms, an owner app and a free self-serve start, yes. If breadth of features and independent certifications matter most, Provet is ahead.
How does Provet Cloud's price compare with PetGrid's?
Provet publishes Core at US$249 a month with one vet plus US$99 per extra vet. PetGrid is $259 CAD a month per practice plus $90 CAD per veterinarian. Both are published, so work them out at your own headcount and in the same currency.
Is there a contract with PetGrid?
No long-term contract. PetGrid is monthly and you can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the billing period; a period already begun is not refunded.
How long does it take to go live on Provet Cloud?
Provet describes typical go-live as 8 to 12 weeks, with migration of demographics, medical histories, attachments, appointments and reminders. On PetGrid you can start a trial the same day and import your own records at your pace.
How do I move from Provet Cloud to PetGrid?
Give notice in time, since Provet needs at least three months, and ask for a full export well within the 60 days its terms allow after termination. Import clients and pets first, then visit and vaccine history. Our guide to switching veterinary software without losing data walks through each step.
The short version
Provet Cloud is a strong, broad product with published prices, full inventory, a listening AI scribe and real certifications. PetGrid does less, and says so. What it offers a small independent clinic is a monthly plan with no notice period, an owner app in the clinic's own name, free self-serve imports and records built to the Ontario standard.
If that trade suits your clinic, the simplest test is to try it with your own records and keep Provet running until you are sure.
