Veterinary medical records software, with AI drafts the vet signs

PetGrid's veterinary medical records software keeps each patient's chart in one place: SOAP notes, vitals, vaccines, labs, documents and anesthesia records, with AI that drafts the note while the vet decides.

Notes are never overwritten: corrections are dated addenda, and the chart prints with its audit trail.

How it works

How it works, step by step

  1. Open the chart

Open the visit from the schedule and the patient's chart is there: history, vaccines, allergies and active prescriptions.

  2. Write the note

Type shorthand or dictate, then press Draft with AI to fill the SOAP fields, or write them yourself. Add vitals as you go.

  3. Review and save

Read the draft, change what you need and save; the visit is completed and the note is locked.

  4. Correct and share, with a trail

Later changes are dated addenda with a reason. An owner visit summary can go to the owner once a vet approves it.

What you can do

What you can do with it

  • Write a SOAP note (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan and a summary) against each visit, and complete the visit as you save.

  • Correct a note with a dated addendum and a reason; saved notes are never edited, so the record holds up to an inspection.

  • Record vitals (weight, temperature, heart and respiratory rate, body condition) and see the weight over time.

  • Keep vaccines with lot numbers and booster dates, lab results you choose to share, and documents such as previous records and certificates.

  • Keep an anesthesia record: pre-anesthetic check, drugs, monitoring every five minutes, recovery; signing locks it.

  • Dictate in the browser; PetGrid receives the text, never the audio.

  • Print the whole record as a PDF, with its audit trail.

The AI in it

How the AI helps, and who decides

AI drafts the SOAP note from your shorthand or dictation, summarises history with sources, and reads old records; the vet reviews and saves.

What the AI does

  • Draft with AI turns your shorthand or dictation into the SOAP fields, sending only your notes and the pet's species, breed, age, allergies and active prescriptions.
  • Summarise history gives a short summary of the chart, each point linked to its source record; it is not saved.
  • Drafts an owner visit summary and a plain note on lab results, for a vet to approve.
  • Reads an old record from another clinic (a PDF or a photo) and proposes vaccines, conditions, allergies and medications.

What you decide

The vet reads, edits and saves every AI draft in their own name; a note is marked as AI-drafted and reviewed by that vet. Owner visit summaries and lab notes reach the owner only after a vet approves them. When the AI reads an old record, staff accept or reject each item.

How to switch it off

An admin switches all AI off for the practice in Settings, under AI features for this practice. An owner can ask for no AI on their pet, recorded on the chart, which stops summaries, owner visit summaries and record reading for that pet. Reading old records also has its own switch.

Good to know

What it does not do (yet)

  • The AI drafts and summarises; it never saves a note, sends a summary or changes the chart without a person.
  • There is no ask-anything chat over the record; the AI works on the tasks named here.
  • Clinic memory is your clinic's knowledge for the front desk, not a memory of each patient.

Questions people ask

What do PetGrid's veterinary medical records include?

PetGrid's veterinary medical records hold SOAP notes, vitals, vaccines, lab results, documents and anesthesia records for each patient. Saved notes are never edited; a correction is a dated addendum with a reason, and every change is in the audit trail.

Can AI write my SOAP notes?

Yes. Draft with AI turns your shorthand or dictation into a SOAP draft that you edit and save in your own name, and the note is marked as AI-drafted and reviewed by you. Draft with AI is part of AI Assist, included in every plan.

What patient data does the AI see?

Only what the task needs: for a note draft, your own notes and the pet's species, breed, age, allergies and active prescriptions, never the owner's details. See security for how records are kept apart and encrypted.

Can I dictate notes?

Yes: dictate in the browser and the words appear as text. The speech is handled on the device or by the browser's maker, which the panel tells you, and PetGrid only ever receives the text.

How do records from another clinic get into the chart?

Upload the old record as a PDF or a photo and the AI proposes vaccines, conditions, allergies and medications; staff accept or reject each one. For a whole clinic's data, see import and export.
